(180 days) Open pollinated. This old variety developed in northern Europe more than a century ago still reigns supreme as an outstanding OP cabbage in a field now dominated by hybrids. The tasty large 3–5 lb green slightly flattened semi-savoyed heads with purple wrapper leaves are extremely cold hardy and can overwinter in Zone 7 and warmer. Farther north, where January really tests our mettle, this king is unfazed by temperatures as low as 5°. Start early, harvest late.
