Annual. An OP organic selection of ornamental-grass celeb Purple Majesty from a seed grower we work with in CA. Quite similar to Purple Majesty in appearance, with the same striking deep purple seed spikes and corn-like foliage. Seedheads can be harvested immature for small purple cattail-like plumes, which make enthralling additions to bouquets. Left to mature, seed spikes grow nearly a foot long atop 4–5' plants! Tasty snacks for the birds. 

Easy to grow, widely adapted, and notably drought tolerant. Cultivate like sunflowers.

From early May through mid-December, items shipping from our garden seeds warehouse ship twice a week, usually Tuesday and Thursday. For quickest turnaround time order online by noon Monday or Wednesday.

Grains

Our grains selections are rare heirloom varieties especially chosen for small-scale production. Revived interest in food security and sovereignty inspires us to seek edible and heirloom grains. In the early 1800s Maine was the breadbasket of the U.S. Wheat and rice do not demand huge space and can be threshed with a little ingenuity. With good fertility, proper spacing and reasonable diligence, it is quite possible to harvest 10 lb of heirloom wheat from 100 plants in a 10x10' plot. A 100' row of rice can yield 6–10 lb.

Saving Flower Seeds Is Easy!

Almost all the flowers we list are open- pollinated and easy to save seed from. Some types cross readily, but who cares! Save the seeds, plant them, and be surprised.

These flowers are especially easy to save seed from: bachelor’s buttons, calendula, cerinthe, cosmos, love-in-a- mist (nigella), nasturtium, poppy, strawflower, sunflower, sweet pea and tithonia.
