Open-pollinated. Perennial to Zone 3. A gorgeous wetland native wildflower, this hummingbird magnet can be grown in moist garden soils or meadows, too. Tubular scarlet flowers bloom along spikes for several weeks in mid to late summer. In the right conditions, these short-lived perennials will self-sow and naturalize beautifully. Plants are 2–4' tall; prefer sun to part shade. Surface sow seeds into cold moist soil in late fall, or cold stratify in the fridge and seed in the spring. Native from southeastern Canada, through the eastern U.S. and Mexico, and down through Central America—its range nearly matches that of the migrating ruby-throated hummingbird. Our seed is Maine-sourced and grown out on a local farm. Especially attractive to pollinators. ① NEW!
