Mid. Swenson intro, U Minn, 2000.
Long slightly loose clusters of medium-sized lush white fruit. Excellent sugar content and acidity for winemaking. Makes a nice classy varietal with no foxy flavor but also can be added to enhance other more neutral wines. Tom Plocher and Bob Parke reported in Notes from the North that the wine has a “fullness in the mouth and finish that is uncommon among hybrids... In some years it develops a delicate floral nose that allows it to stand as a single variety wine. In most years however, Prairie Star is an ideal blending component to add body and finish to thin white wines.” Moderate disease resistance. Extremely hardy to –40°. Z3. (well-rooted vines)
