‘Mandarin’ Honeysuckle

bare-root plants
Lonicera spp Up to 20'. (Lonicera × brownii ‘Dropmore Scarlet’ × Lonicera tragophylla) Sterile hybrid with complex parentage, developed by the University of British Columbia Botanical Garden in the late 1980s.

Clusters of dazzling trumpeted pink-orange flowers with yellow throats on this hardy vine bloom from spring through late fall, as late as November in central Maine. This might be the number one favorite plant of the hummingbird in our gardens. Pollinated flowers will yield red berries in late summer.

Prefers well-drained soil, full sun to part shade, and a trellis to twist and climb over. Left untrellised, it will mound and form a thick dome that the birds use as a nesting site, per our trials.

Not to be confused with the invasive bush honeysuckles. Species, which comprises one of the parents, is native to the US. Z3. NEW! (well-rooted vines) Limited supply—order early!

Items from our perennial plants warehouse ordered on or before March 7 will ship around March 31 through late April, starting with warmer areas and finishing in colder areas. Orders placed after March 7 will ship around late April through early-to-mid May, in the order in which they were received.
