Tanglefoot for Crawling Pests

A super-sticky, nontoxic, non-drying, weather-resistant barrier to prevent damage from crawling insects like cankerworms, weevils, spongy moth caterpillars, earwigs, and most notably ants and aphids, which can do a lot of damage to young leaves of fruit trees. Ants distribute the aphids to feed on leaves, and in return the ants collect sugary secretions from the aphids. But the feeling’s not mutual for us humans who want young leaves to stay healthy.

Wrap some kind of sleeve or banding around the trunk, smear Tanglefoot on the wrap, and insects won’t be able to crawl up and down your tree. Do not apply directly to tree bark.

Nat’l List: One-ingredient products on the NOP* List of Allowed Substances (subpart G of the Organic Foods Production Act, sections 205.601-606). Check with your certifier.
AYC: Ask your certifier. Has not been reviewed by a certifier, but the active ingredient is allowed. Ask your certifier.
