Atago Asian Pear

Atago Asian Pear

bare-root trees
Pyrus pyrifolia Fall. Nijisseiki × Imamura Aki. Ninomiya-Engei Testing Center intro, Japan, 1928.

Very large sweet juicy golden-brown pear with a claim to fame. According to The Guinness Book of World Records in 2011, an Atago grown by JA Aichi Toyota Nashi Bukai in Japan was the heaviest pear in the world at 6 lbs 8 oz. Will develop sweetness even in cooler summer weather. Long bloom period makes it a good pollinator for other pears. Good resistance to fireblight. Z5. (2½–6' trees) (3–6' bare-root trees)

Although partly self-fruitful, pollinators are recommended. The varieties we offer will pollinate one another. Some European pears, notably Bartlett, will also act as pollinators. Plant 15–20' apart.
