Pink Spires Crabapple

bare-root trees
Malus

12 × 15' W.L. Kerr intro, Sutherland Tree Nursery, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

One of the earliest to bloom every spring. Lavender buds and very light pink single blossoms. The bees love it! Years ago the late Roger Luce, Maine’s great crabapple authority, described it to me as “so fragrant, it sounds like there’s a beehive in it.” Of the small purplish-red persistent fruit, he added, “Birds love the fruit. They clean it.”

Maroon foliage turns green-bronze in summer. Medium-sized narrow upright tree spreads with age. Fair to good disease resistance. Z4. (Semi-dwarf: 3-6' bare-root trees)
