Round-conic medium-sized berries with an intense deep dark almost purple color. Strong aromatic tart raspberry flavor and a perfect medium-soft texture. Grower John Meader speaks glowingly of Boyne, calling it “an excellent, excellent variety. Boyne is the one to beat if you’re going to introduce a new raspberry.” Leaves tend to curl down over the fruit making it harder to pick if you’re in a hurry. According to friends who make honey and fruit butters, there is no better raspberry for processing.
Summer-bearing raspberries bear on second-year canes (floricanes). Midseason berries ripen around late July in central Maine. Disease resistant. Extremely hardy. Z3. (bare-root canes)
